Bad Santas and diabolic dolls = kindergarten times

Hey everyone :-)

This time I would like to share some of my childhood memories with you. The ones from kindergarten as here in Poznan I've only photos from our annual "kindergarten-sessions".
The first picture was taken when I was in first group, I was 3 years and 6 months then (my mum puts always exact dates and infos on the reverse side of each photograph:)). I don't look very happy here. And I can guess why. Look at the dool! I must have been afraid of her! Or... the second version- maybe I was afraid of the photographer and camera.

Little Anja with the diabolic doll (she resembles one of my kindergarten teachers)

And the second picture- here I was older (six years). It was taken during our annual Christmas party. Every year pictures of us sitting on the Santa's knees were taken. It was the first time I didn't cry before this procedure. I was always afraid of the Santa! But on the other hand I loved this occassion because of presents. Together with other kids we always tried to guess what was inside and we were so anxious to get the present :)

Summing up: kindergarten times rocked!
I survived diabolic dolls and bad santas
having at the same time great fun ! :-)

Come back!!

What would I change in history if I could? That's really a hard task for me, especially because history was never my favourite subject. So well, I won't intervene and change nothing serious in history- the outcomes of my fantasy could be disastrous. Who knows maybe my post would unleash III world war ;-) So let's better leave history and serious stuff for another occasion.
Another, "smaller history" of my personal life. And again- no idea what to do here.
But as I was watching news during Easter break something different crossed my mind. On 15th April it will have been 100 years since Titanic sank. Everyone definitely knows the film which is Cameron's great achievement. What is more, everyone who knows the film recalls the scene:

This scene- that's the place I would intervene! Jack would survive. But well, how could I intervene?  Maybe by means of a miracle? Of course to make the story more tragic, Kate would live in conviction that Jack was dead. After long years they would meet and live happily ever after. Jake would finally COME BACK.

But should such a tragic but at the same time moving and poignant scene in the film be changed? Probably the film would not benefit from my version of the script (don't worry I won't be a scriptwriter). But well maybe my version would appeal to the ones who like me prefer getting things complicated.

PS: For those who are more interested in Titanic history: since 31st March 2012 you can visit Titanic Museum in Belfast.

Instrumental?! YES :)

I must admit that I had never been a huge fan of instrumental music. There was even time in my life when I did not treat it as "a real kind of music" at all. Good music without lyrics?! How can that be possible?
Fortunately I overcame my fear of instrumental music when I heard a piece of music which the choreographer of my dance group chose for our next performance. I loved the music and immediately asked about the performer.
It was: VANESSA MAE

She is an internationally known British violinist. Vanessa was born in Singapore in 1978 but her family moved to England when she was four. She grew up in London and holds British citizenship. She began playing piano at the age of three and violin at five <wow>
Vanessa-Mae moved from a classical recording career into the field of popular music with her album, "The Violin Player". Many criticise her for not being classical enough, even calling her kitschy, but I really think that comparing her to great classical geniuses is not a good idea. She is doing something totally different and such comparison is not applicable here.

In 2009 her new album should be released but unfortunately nothing like that happened. Could you imagine my surprise when I read on wikipedia that "In 2009 Vanessa-Mae took up residence in the Swiss alpine resort Zermatt. A skier since the age of five, she plans to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics as a downhill skier, representing Thailand" <again - wow>

Second language learning. Is it worth?

In this post I would like to comment on the issue of learning forein languages adressed in the article in the Observer. Nowadays many people think that English is enough in order to "survive" in the world. Especially such attitude is common among native speakers of English, which means that they do not need to learn any other language beside acquiring their mother tongue. Lucky them! Or not neccessarily...

Giving up the chance of learning a new language, one loses a lot. First of all you cannot explore another culture which for me is the best part of learning another language. I also believe that learning a language is fun! You can meet a lot of interesting people, learn a lot from them, but also they can learn something from you. Furthermore, knowledge of a language opens for us a range of future prospects as well: better job, promotion, studying or living abroad.

I like the quote from the article: "On the individual level, think of the loss of possibility, the preordained narrowness of a life encased in one language, as if you were only ever allowed one, as if it were your skin in which you were born. Or your cage." Let's not be ignorant to other languages, let's have fun, let's explore, let's do something for ourselves. And learning a new language can definietly help us to achieve everything mentioned
